Abstract
An HME has a housing moulded in two parts of a thick, thermally-insulative foamed plastics to form an enlarged central region and opposite end walls. Separate patient and machine end couplings are bonded to openings in the end walls. The two housing parts are bonded end to end about an HME element formed by a strip of treated corrugated paper wound about a support sleeve.
Claims16
A heat and moisture exchange (HME) device, comprising:
- a housing having an inlet coupling, an outlet coupling, an HME element retained in the housing, and a hollow sleeve extending axially through the HME element and in axial alignment with the inlet coupling and the outlet coupling, and the sleeve is normally blocked by a valve that can be selectively opened.
A heat and moisture exchange (HME) device, comprising:
- a housing having an interior, an HME element retained in the interior, an inlet coupling adapted to be used by a patient to breathe through the HME device extending from a back wall of the housing, an outlet coupling extending from a forward wall of the housing, a hollow sleeve extending axially through the HME element and in axial alignment with the inlet coupling and the outlet coupling, a selectively openable valve in the sleeve blocks air flow along the sleeve.
