Abstract
Devices and methods establish and facilitate retrograde or reverse flow blood circulation in the region of the carotid artery bifurcation in order to limit or prevent the release of emboli into the cerebral vasculature such as into the internal carotid artery. The methods are particularly useful for interventional procedures performed through a transcarotid approach or transfemoral into the common carotid artery.
Claims30
A flow control assembly for use in a retrograde flow system, the flow control assembly comprising:
- a housing including a first housing member and a second housing member coupled to the first housing member;
- wherein the housing includes a first end region configured to be coupled to an arterial access sheath;
- wherein the housing includes a second end region configured to be coupled to a venous return catheter;
- a flow pathway defined in-line within the housing that extends between the first end region and the second end region;
- an actuator assembly coupled to the housing;
- wherein the actuator assembly is configured to switch flow along the flow pathway between a first flow state and a second flow state;
- and
- wherein a portion of the actuator assembly engages the flow pathway when flow along the flow pathway is in the second flow state.
A flow control assembly for use in a retrograde flow system, the flow control assembly comprising:
- a multi-piece housing including a first housing component and a second housing component releasably coupled to the first housing component;
- wherein the multi-piece housing includes a first end region configured to receive blood from a first catheter;
- wherein the multi-piece housing includes a second end region configured to output blood to a catheter;
- a flow pathway defined within the multi-piece housing that extends between the first end region and the second end region;
- and
- an actuator assembly coupled to the multi-piece housing, the actuator assembly including one or more actuator buttons configured to switch the flow of blood along the flow pathway between a first flow state and a second flow state where a portion of the actuator assembly modulates the flow pathway such that flow through the flow pathway is reduced.
A flow control assembly for use in a retrograde flow system, the flow control assembly comprising:
- a multi-piece housing including a distal housing component defining a distal end region of the multi-piece housing and a proximal housing component detachably coupled to the distal housing component and defining a proximal end region of the multi-piece housing;
- wherein the distal end region of the multi-piece housing is coupled to an arterial access sheath and configured to receive blood from the arterial access sheath;
- wherein the proximal end region of the multi-piece housing is coupled to a venous return catheter and configured to output blood to the venous return catheter;
- a variable flow pathway defined within the multi-piece housing that extends in-line between the distal end region of the multi-piece housing and the proximal end region of the multi-piece housing;
- and
- an actuator assembly coupled to the multi-piece housing, the actuator assembly including one or more actuator buttons configured to switch the flow of blood along the variable flow pathway between a high flow state and a low flow state.
A flow control assembly for use in a retrograde flow system, the flow control assembly comprising:
- a multi-piece housing including a distal housing component defining a distal end region of the multi-piece housing and a proximal housing component detachably coupled to the distal housing component and defining a proximal end region of the multi-piece housing;
- wherein the distal end region of the multi-piece housing is coupled to an arterial access sheath and configured to receive blood from the arterial access sheath;
- wherein the proximal end region of the multi-piece housing is coupled to a venous return catheter and configured to output blood to the venous return catheter;
- a flow path member disposed within the multi-piece housing that extends in-line between the distal end region of the multi-piece housing and the proximal end region of the multi-piece housing;
- and
- an actuator assembly coupled to the multi-piece housing, the actuator assembly including one or more actuator buttons configured to switch the flow of blood along the flow path member between a high flow state and a low flow state.
