Abstract
A left atrial appendage (LAA) ligation device is adapted for ligating the LAA via a trans-septal approach, the LAA including an ostium. The LAA ligation device includes a spiral ligation element extending from an end point disposed at a periphery of the spiral ligation element to a center point of the spiral ligation element, the spiral ligation element having a diameter defined by the periphery and a length defined between the periphery and the center point. A delivery device is adapted to releasably secure the spiral ligation element and to enable rotation of the spiral ligation device.
Claims20
A method of ligating a left atrial appendage, comprising:
- positioning a delivery device to a position within a left atrium proximate the left atrial appendage;
- deploying a left atrial appendage ligation device within an ostium of the left atrial appendage, the left atrial appendage ligation device including a spiral ligation element extending from an end point disposed at a periphery of the spiral ligation element to a center point of the spiral ligation element;
- rotating the left atrial appendage ligation device relative to the ostium of the left atrial appendage to penetrate through the ostium of the left atrial appendage with the end point of the spiral ligation element to a position exterior to the left atrial appendage;
- and
- after penetrating through the ostium of the left atrial appendage with the end point of the spiral ligation element, rotating the left atrial appendage ligation device relative to the left atrial appendage to rotate the spiral ligation element circumferentially around an exterior of the left atrial appendage.
A method of ligating a left atrial appendage, comprising:
- positioning a delivery device to a position within a left atrium proximate the left atrial appendage;
- deploying a left atrial appendage ligation device within an ostium of the left atrial appendage, the left atrial appendage ligation device including:
- a spiral ligation element extending from an end point disposed at a periphery of the spiral ligation element to a center point of the spiral ligation element;
- and
- a second spiral element slidingly disposed within a lumen of the spiral ligation element, wherein the second spiral element includes an end point configured to penetrate the ostium of the left atrial appendage;
- rotating the left atrial appendage ligation device relative to the ostium of the left atrial appendage to penetrate through the ostium of the left atrial appendage with the end point of the second spiral element to a position exterior to the left atrial appendage;
- and
- after penetrating through the ostium of the left atrial appendage with the end point of the second spiral element, rotating the left atrial appendage ligation device relative to the left atrial appendage to rotate the spiral ligation element circumferentially around an exterior of the left atrial appendage
