A method of operating a home aquarium, the method comprising:
- (a) providing a transparent tank holding water having a surrounding wall with an enclosure rim surrounding an open top and an opposite closed bottom wall, the surrounding wall and bottom wall defining an interior volume;
- the tank being supported by a base under the bottom wall of the tank, the base having an outer wall;
- (b) operating an electrically powered lighting arrangement secured to a portion of the aquarium to cast light into the interior volume;
- (c) operating an electrically powered pump oriented within an interior of the tank;
- and
- (d) using a unitary junction box integrally formed with the base to electrically power the lighting arrangement and the pump.
A home aquarium apparatus comprising:
- (a) a transparent tank having a surrounding wall including a front wall, rear wall, left side wall, and right side wall with an enclosure rim surrounding an open top and an opposite closed bottom wall;
- the surrounding wall and bottom wall defining an interior volume configured to hold water;
- (b) a base supporting the tank under the bottom wall of the tank;
- the base having an outer wall;
- (c) a unitary junction box integrally formed with the base, the junction box having an aperture arrangement contained within a single side of the junction box accessible from the outer wall of the base;
- (d) an electrically powered lighting arrangement secured to a portion of the aquarium and positioned to cast light into the interior volume;
- (e) an electrically powered pump oriented within an interior of the tank;
- and
- (f) wherein the aperture arrangement provides all electrical communication to the aquarium and includes no more than 3 apertures for receiving cables or power cords.
