Abstract
A light source for a display includes a driver substrate, an array of mini-LEDs, and a metalens. The driver substrate is configured to selectively illuminate mini-LEDs in the array to generate illumination light. The metalens is configured to focus the illumination light as focused illumination light. The light source may provide illumination light to a Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCOS) display.
Claims20
A display system comprising:
- an array of mini-LEDs configured to generate illumination light;
- a Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCOS) display;
- and
- a metalens configured to focus the illumination light to the LCOS display as focused illumination light, wherein the LCOS display is configured to modulate the focused illumination light into display light.

A light source for a display comprising:
- a driver substrate;
- an array of mini-LEDs electrically coupled to the driver substrate, wherein the driver substrate is configured to selectively illuminate mini-LEDs in the array to generate illumination light;
- and
- a metalens configured to focus the illumination light as focused illumination light.
1 more element
A head-mounted display (HMD) comprising:
- a driver substrate;
- an array of mini-LEDs, wherein the driver substrate is configured to selectively illuminate mini-LEDs in the array to generate illumination light;
- a Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCOS) display;
- a metalens configured to focus the illumination light to the LCOS display as focused illumination light;
- and
- a waveguide, wherein the LCOS display is configured to modulate the focused illumination light into display light, and wherein the waveguide directs the display light to an eyebox region of the head-mounted display.
