Systems and methods for managing operations of discrete graphics components of data processing systems

A non-transitory machine-readable medium having instructions stored therein, which when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform operations for managing operation of a data processing system, the operations comprising:

• identifying, by a management controller and based on a set of control policies, an occurrence of a policy management event;
• based on the occurrence of the policy management event:
• identifying, by the management controller an using the set of control policies, a desired state for a discrete graphics component of hardware resources of the data processing system;
• updating, by the management controller and based on the desired state, operation of the discrete graphics component to obtain an updated discrete graphics component;
• and
• providing, using the updated discrete graphics component, computer implemented services to a user of the data processing system, the computer implemented services conforming to limits specified by the set of control policies.

A data processing system, comprising:

• a processor;
• and
• a memory coupled to the processor to store instructions, which when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations for managing operation of the data processing system, the operations comprising:
• identifying, by a management controller and based on a set of control policies, an occurrence of a policy management event;
• based on the occurrence of the policy management event:
• identifying, by the management controller an using the set of control policies, a desired state for a discrete graphics component of hardware resources of the data processing system;
• updating, by the management controller and based on the desired state, operation of the discrete graphics component to obtain an updated discrete graphics component;
• and
• providing, using the updated discrete graphics component, computer implemented services to a user of the data processing system, the computer implemented services conforming to limits specified by the set of control policies.
