Abstract
This invention relates to a barrier paper comprising a parchment paper base material and a non-continuous coating formed on a surface thereof, wherein the non-continuous coating is made of at least one of a water-soluble polymer and a water-dispersible polymer.

A barrier paper comprising:
- a parchment paper as a base material;
- and
- a non-continuous coating formed on a surface of the base material,
- wherein the non-continuous coating is made of at least one of a water-soluble polymer and a water-dispersible polymer, and
- wherein the parchment paper to be used as the base material has an oxygen transmission rate of less than 10,000 cm3/m2/day, as measured at 23° C. and a relative humidity of 50%.

A method for producing a barrier paper, the method comprising:
- applying at least one water-soluble polymer or water-dispersible polymer onto a surface of a parchment paper as a base material to form a non-continuous coating,
- wherein the parchment paper to be used as the base material has an oxygen transmission rate of less than 10,000 cm3/m2/day, as measured at 23° C. and a relative humidity of 50%.
