Abstract
An integrated process having an ultra-low GHG footprint for converting Camelina based biomass to liquid fuels and lubricant base stocks in which a Camelina based biomass feed is converted to liquids by a multistep hydroprocessing method and the liquids are upgraded to produce premium hydrocarbon fuels and lubricants.
Claims14
An integrated process having an ultra-low GHG footprint for converting camelina based biomass to liquid fuels and C27+ lubricant base stocks, comprising the steps of:
- a. extracting seed oil from the camelina based biomass;
- b. hydroprocessing the triglyceride fraction from the seed oil to produce monounsaturated free fatty acids and byproduct cellulosic biomass residues;
- c. producing structured biochar and green hydrogen by pyrolyzing biomass residues from the hydroprocessing step;
- d. upgrading the free fatty acids to produce fuels and/or chemical base stocks;
- e. using process produced CO2, hydrogen and structured biochar to produce a cyanobacteria based biofertilizer;
- and
- f. coating camelina seeds with process produced biofertilizer, biochar, a binder and a tackifier to produce seeds suitable for broadcast planting.
An integrated process having an ultra-low GHG footprint for converting carinata based biomass to liquid fuels and C27+ lubricant base stocks, comprising the steps of:
- a. extracting seed oil from the carinata based biomass;
- b. hydroprocessing the triglyceride fraction from the seed oil to produce monounsaturated free fatty acids and byproduct cellulosic biomass residues;
- c. producing structured biochar and green hydrogen by pyrolyzing biomass residues from the hydroprocessing step;
- d. upgrading the free fatty acids to produce fuels and/or chemical base stocks;
- e. using process produced CO2, hydrogen and structured biochar to produce a cyanobacteria based biofertilizer;
- and
- f. coating carinata seeds with process produced biofertilizer, biochar, a binder and a tackifier to produce seeds suitable for broadcast planting.
