Abstract
Provided is a customizable dump body for a vehicle, and a method of manufacturing and inventorying the components for manufacturing the same. The customizable dump body includes a bulkhead, a floor member with a terminal portion, two side panels, wherein at least one side panel has a mating surface, and wherein the side panel and mating surface are connected together. A customizable side panel assembly for a dump body for a vehicle may include a side panel having an outer side and an inner side, and a side panel rail, wherein the side panel rail is positioned on the outer side of the side panel.
Claims18
A customizable dump body for a vehicle comprising:
- a bottom member comprising a floor panel defining a horizontal transport surface for retaining material transported within the dump body and at least one terminal portion vertically perpendicular to the floor panel;
- at least one side panel defining vertical side support surfaces of the dump body, and comprising a side panel mating surface attachable to the at least one terminal portion of the bottom member, wherein the side panel mating surface is configured to attach to the terminal portion at at least one of a plurality of selected positions each having a predetermined different vertical height above the floor panel;
- and
- a securement for securing the at least one side panel mating surface to the terminal portion.
A method of customizing a dump body for a vehicle, comprising steps of:
- providing a bottom member including a floor member defining a horizontal transport surface for retaining material transported within the dump body and at least one terminal portion vertically perpendicular to the floor panel, and at least one side panel defining vertical side support surfaces of the dump body and including a side panel mating surface;
- positioning the at least one side panel up or down over a plurality of selected positions each having a predetermined different vertical height above the floor panel until a desired height for the at least one side panel with respect to the bottom member is reached;
- and
- securing the side panels to the bottom member resulting in a dump body having side panels positioned at a desired height.
