A sensor unit for detection of rapid pressure loss in a tire includes an integrated circuit, a microcontroller unit, an antenna transmitting a signal from the sensor unit, a power source to power the sensor unit, and a discrete analog component. The discrete analog component includes an analog pressure sensor to generate a signal of pressure indication, a differentiator receiving the signal of pressure indication and calculating a rate of pressure change, a level detector storing a threshold value of a rate of pressure change, and an interrupt request generated by the level detector when the calculated rate of pressure change exceeds the threshold value, indicating a rapid air loss event. The interrupt request is sent from the analog component through the integrated circuit to the microcontroller unit to actuate or interrupt the microcontroller unit, and an alert signal is generated by the microcontroller unit.
