Protective assembly for a human torso to be worn during a contact sport

A method of designing and assembling a protective assembly for a human torso for a specific player from a collection of pre-manufactured members and/or components, the method comprising:

• obtaining anatomical data of a specific player's torso;
• creating a body part model of the specific player's torso from the obtained anatomical data within a computer software program, wherein said body part model includes a pectoral muscle, an apex point, and a bottom point;
• identifying a chest ratio that is equal to the length between the apex point located at an apex of the pectoral muscle and an internal reference point divided by the height from the bottom point located at the bottom of the pectoral muscle and the internal reference point, and wherein said internal reference point is located at the intersection of a vertical line that extends upward from the bottom point and a horizontal line that extends rearward from the apex point;
• providing a plurality of outer protective chest members, and wherein each outer protective chest member of the plurality of outer protective chest members has either a first curvature, second curvature, or a third curvature, and wherein the second curvature is greater than the first curvature, and the third curvature is greater than the second curvature;
• if the player's chest ratio is:
• greater than a first predetermined value, then identify an outer protective chest member with the first curvature for the player;
• between the first predetermined value and a second predetermined value, then identify an outer protective chest member with the second curvature for the player;
• greater than a third predetermined value, then identify an outer protective chest member with the third curvature for the player, and
• installing the identified outer protective chest member within a protective torso assembly.
