Abstract

A lithium secondary battery includes a positive electrode, a negative electrode, a separator disposed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode, and a nonaqueous electrolyte. At the negative electrode, lithium metal deposits during charging, and the lithium metal dissolves during discharging. The separator has an elongated shape having a length D1 in a first direction and a length D2 in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction, where D1<D2. The separator has a substrate layer, and a spacer layer. The spacer layer includes a linear first protruding portion having a first pattern, and a linear second protruding portion having a second pattern different from the first pattern, and the line width of the first protruding portion and the line width of the second protruding portion are different from each other.
