A payment transaction processing system is described that involves separate instances of a payment transaction facilitation computer program running on the computing device or devices associated with a transaction processing entity, a consumer, and a merchant. The computer program facilitates a consumer's purchase of goods and/or services from a merchant at a physical store or online without incurring credit card or debit card interchanges fees. In one implementation, the transaction processing entity receives payment information from a consumer, or a merchant, or both. The payment amount is withdrawn from a bank account belonging to the consumer and deposited into a bank account belonging to the transaction processing entity. The payment amount less a transaction fee charged by the transaction processing entity is then withdrawn from the transaction processing entity's bank account and deposited into a bank account belonging to the merchant to complete the payment.
