Abstract
A method may include ocean bottom sensor (OBS) acquisition designed for complex earth model building and imaging with full waveform inversion (FWI) technology. Various combinations of OBS source and receiver patterns, as well as source design may be validated with FWI sensitivity kernel analysis technique. Usually, OBS design is done using conventional methods based on wavelength, frequency requirements, ray tracing and rules of thumps. The method of the disclosed embodiments utilizes OBS design and acquisition combined with FWI sensitivity kernel analysis.
Claims23
A method, comprising:
- deploying a plurality of ocean bottom sensors at a water bottom in a seismic survey, wherein the plurality of ocean bottom sensors is spaced at regular or irregular intervals;
- activating a plurality of seismic sources at a plurality of positions configured to provide sampling of seismic wavefields comprising reflection waves and diving waves, wherein the plurality of seismic sources comprises different types of seismic sources configured to be towed by the same or by different vessels and fired simultaneously or independently;
- recording, via the plurality of ocean bottom sensors, the seismic wavefields generated by the plurality of seismic sources;
- and
- determining a plurality of parameters associated with the plurality of ocean bottom sensors and the plurality of seismic sources based at least on a full waveform inversion (FWI) analysis.
A system, comprising:
- one or more processors;
- and
- one or more memories comprising instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:
- activate a plurality of seismic sources at a plurality of positions configured to provide sampling of seismic wavefields comprising reflection waves and diving waves, wherein the plurality of seismic sources comprises different types of seismic sources configured to be towed by the same or by different vessels and fired simultaneously or independently;
- record, via one or more sensors in each of a plurality of ocean bottom sensors at a water bottom in a seismic survey, the seismic wavefields generated by the plurality of seismic sources, wherein the plurality of ocean bottom sensors is spaced at regular or irregular intervals;
- and
- determine a plurality of parameters associated with the plurality of ocean bottom sensors and the plurality of seismic sources based at least on a full waveform inversion (FWI) analysis.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising instructions that when executed, cause a processor to:
- activate a plurality of seismic sources at a plurality of positions configured to provide sampling of seismic wavefields comprising reflection waves and diving waves, wherein the plurality of seismic sources comprises different types of seismic sources configured to be towed by the same or by different vessels and fired simultaneously or independently;
- record, via one or more sensors in each of a plurality of ocean bottom sensors at a water bottom in a seismic survey, the seismic wavefields generated by the plurality of seismic sources, wherein the plurality of ocean bottom sensors is spaced at regular or irregular intervals;
- and
- determine a plurality of parameters associated with the plurality of ocean bottom sensors and the plurality of seismic sources based at least on a full waveform inversion (FWI) analysis.
