Location measurement error detection

A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing computer-executable instructions that, when executed, cause a computing system to perform operations comprising:

• receiving a plurality of sensor location measurements of a client device measured by a location sensor of the client device, wherein each sensor location measurement comprises a geographic location of the client device measured by the location sensor;
• receiving a plurality of visual location measurements of the client device, wherein each visual location measurement is determined based on image data captured by the client device;
• computing a plurality of sensor location translations based on the plurality of sensor location measurements, wherein each sensor location translation is computed based on a difference between a sequential pair of sensor location measurements of the plurality of sensor location measurements;
• computing a plurality of visual location translations based on the plurality of visual location measurements, wherein each visual location translation is a difference between a sequential pair of visual location measurements of the plurality of visual location measurements;
• identifying a difference between a sensor location translation of the plurality of sensor location translations and a corresponding visual location translation of the plurality of visual location translations that exceeds a threshold value;
• and
• responsive to identifying the difference, disabling a feature of a client application operating on the client device.

A computing system comprising a processor and a non-transitory computer-readable medium storing computer-executable instructions that, when executed, cause the computing system to perform operations comprising:

• receiving a plurality of sensor location measurements of a client device measured by a location sensor of the client device, wherein each sensor location measurement comprises a geographic location of the client device measured by the location sensor;
• receiving a plurality of visual location measurements of the client device, wherein each visual location measurement is determined based on image data captured by the client device;
• computing a plurality of sensor location translations based on the plurality of sensor location measurements, wherein each sensor location translation is computed based on a difference between a sequential pair of sensor location measurements of the plurality of sensor location measurements;
• computing a plurality of visual location translations based on the plurality of visual location measurements, wherein each visual location translation is a difference between a sequential pair of visual location measurements of the plurality of visual location measurements;
• identifying a difference between a sensor location translation of the plurality of sensor location translations and a corresponding visual location translation of the plurality of visual location translations that exceeds a threshold value;
• and
• responsive to identifying the difference, disabling a feature of a client application operating on the client device.
