Abstract
A handgun simulator includes a frame or housing that resembles a typical shape and form factor of an actual semiautomatic handgun. A haptic effects system including a linear motor for generating haptic effects is mounted in the frame or housing of the handgun simulator. The haptic effect system generates haptic effects that cause a user holding the handgun simulator to experience forces that mimic or simulate what a user would feel when performing various actions with the handgun simulator. A power supply that can be shaped like a typical ammunition magazine can be removably attached to the frame or housing in much the same way that an actual ammunition magazine is attached to and removed from a semiautomatic handgun.
Claims20
A handgun simulator, comprising:
- a housing that resembles portions of a semiautomatic handgun;
- a slide assembly that is movably mounted to a top of the housing;
- a haptic effect generator mounted on the housing, the haptic effect generator being configured to generate a haptic effect that simulates firing live ammunition with a firearm;
- a trigger assembly that is mounted to the housing that includes a movable trigger, wherein the trigger assembly outputs a trigger signal when a user actuates the trigger;
- a controller that is operatively coupled to the haptic effect generator and the trigger assembly and that causes the haptic effect generator to generate a haptic effect that simulates firing a live round of ammunition when the trigger assembly outputs the trigger signal;
- and
- a power source that provides power to the controller and the haptic effect generator.
A handgun simulator, comprising:
- a housing that resembles portions of a semiautomatic handgun, the housing including a grip portion;
- a slide assembly that is movably mounted to a top of the housing;
- a haptic effect generator mounted on the housing, the haptic effect generator being configured to generate a haptic effect that simulates firing live ammunition with a firearm;
- a trigger assembly that is mounted to the housing that includes a movable trigger, wherein the trigger assembly outputs a trigger signal when a user actuates the trigger;
- an ammunition magazine simulator that is configured to be removably mounted within the grip portion of the housing, and wherein a power supply is located in the ammunition magazine simulator;
- and
- a controller that is operatively coupled to the haptic effect generator and the trigger assembly and that causes the haptic effect generator to generate a haptic effect that simulates firing a live round of ammunition when the trigger assembly outputs the trigger signal;
- wherein the power supply supplies power to the controller and the haptic effect generator.
