Abstract
[000144] A rotating internal combustion engine is provided. The engine includes a drive shaft and a rotatable cylinder coupled with the drive shaft. Combustion chambers are formed through the rotatable cylinder. The combustion chambers are defined by combustion blades of the rotatable cylinder. The engine is configured to generate power from combustion of the gases and from turbine movement caused from the combustion gases. Also disclosed is a fixed cylinder combustion engine.

1-33. (canceled)
A combustion turbine engine, the engine comprising:
- a drive shaft;
- an intake port including intake inlets, wherein the intake port is coupled to the drive shaft;
- an exhaust port including exhaust outlets, wherein the exhaust port is coupled to the drive shaft;
- a combustion turbine having an intake end and an exhaust end, wherein the combustion turbine is positioned between the intake port and the exhaust port such that the intanke end is adjacent the intake port and the exhaust end is adjacent the exhaust port, and wherein the combustion turbine is coupled to the drive shaft;
- a plurality of constant volume combustion chambers extending through the combustion turbine, wherein each constant volume combustion chamber has curved combustion chamber walls, wherein each constant volume combustion chamber has a chamber inlet at the intake end and a chamber outlet at the exhaust end, and wherein each constant volume combustion chamber has an extent that spans from the intake end to the exhaust end;
- a component coupled with the drive shaft;
- wherein, through a cycle of the combustion turbine engine, the combustion turbine is rotatable relative to the intake port and the exhaust port to a position where the all of the chamber inelts and chamber outlets are closed such that constant volume combustion occurs simultaneously in all of the plurality of constant volume combustion chambers;
- and
- wherein the curved combustion chamber walls are shaped such that thrust forces of combustion gases imparted on the curved combustion chamber walls during constant volume combustion and during exhaust of combustion gases drive rotation of the combustion turbine, from the intake end to the exhaust end, about an axis of rotation of the combustion turbine, and wherein the entirety of the combustion turbine, from the intake end to the exhaust end, rotates in a single direction throughout the cycle of the combustion turbine engine;
- and
- wherein rotation of the combustion turbine drives rotation of the drive shaft, and wherein rotation of the drive shaft drives the first component.
A method of generating motive force using a combustion turbine engine, the method comprising:
- providing a combustion turbine having an intake end with chamber inelts and an exhaust end with chamber outlets, wherein the combustion turbine is coupled to a drive shaft;
- providing fuel and intake air through the chamber inlets and into a plurality of combustion chambers within the combustion turbine;
- closing the chambrer inlets and chamber outlets such that the combustion chambers have a constant volume;
- simultaneously combusting the fuel and intake air within each of the closed combustion chambers, wherein the combusting occurs at the constant volume and forms combustion gases;
- and
- opening the chamber outlets and exhausting the combustion gases from the combustion chambers;
- wherein exhausting the combustion gases drives rotation of the combustion turbine, from the intake end to the exhaust end, about an axis of rotation of the combustion turbine, and wherein the entirety of the combustion turbine, from the intake end to the exhaust end, rotates in a single direction throughout a cycle of the combustion turbine engine;
- wherein rotation of the combustion turbine drives rotation of the drive shaft, and wherein rotation of the drive shaft drives a first component that is coupled with the drive shaft.
A method of generating motive force using a combustion turbine engine, the method comprising:
- providing a combustion turbine having an intake end with chamber inelts, an exhaust end with chamber outlets, and a plurality of combustion chambers between the intake end and exhaust end, wherein the combustion turbine is coupled to a drive shaft;
- opening the chamber inlets while the chamber outlets are closed, and providing fuel and intake air through the chamber inlets and into a plurality of combustion chambers within the combustion turbine;
- closing the chambrer inlets and, with the chabmer inelts and chabmer outlets closed, simultaneously combusting the fuel and intake air within each of the combustion chambers, wherein the combusting occurs at a constant volume and forms combustion gases;
- opening the chamber outlets and exhausting the combustion gases from the combustion chambers, wherein exhausting the combustion gases drives rotation of the combustion turbine, from the intake end to the exhaust end, about an axis of rotation of the combustion turbine, and wherein the entirety of the combustion turbine, from the intake end to the exhaust end, rotates in a single direction throughout a cycle of the combustion turbine engine;
- wherein rotation of the combustion turbine drives rotation of the drive shaft, and wherein rotation of the drive shaft drives a first component that is coupled with the drive shaft.
