Abstract
A safety clamp may reduce the risk of oil and gas crew injury during pulling unit operations. The safety clamp may be used when parts are unsecured in between the load cell and the top polished rod clamp. The safety clamp may secure individual parts on the polished rod that may move during repair and/or maintenance of a well. The safety clamp may attach to the load cell and polished rod, allowing the oil and gas crew to pull the well in a safer manner, minimizing the risk of injury. A safety clamp may include pinned shackles and a steel cable attached to the load cell and the single polished rod clamp. Using the safety clamp, the load cell may be kept in tension and does not engage during the process of pulling the well.
Claims10
A safety clamp system that attaches to a load cell and a polished rod during repair and maintenance of a well, the safety clamp system comprising:
- a safety clamp secured above a polished rod clamp;
- a steel cable;
- and
- one or more pinned shackles secured to an arm of the load cell, wherein the load cell is kept in tension and does not engage during a process of pulling the well.
A method for installation and use of a safety clamp on a load cell and a polished rod, the method comprising:
- removing a pin of a shackle of the safety clamp;
- lining eyes of the shackle up with a hole in an end of an arm of the load cell;
- placing the pin back in the shackle;
- tightening the pin;
- extending and opening the safety clamp;
- and
- securing the safety clamp above a polished rod clamp.
A method for installing a safety clamp assembly on a load cell and a polished rod, the method comprising:
- opening the safety clamp assembly;
- installing the safety clamp assembly directly on top of a polished rod clamp;
- removing a screw pin from a pinned shackle of the safety clamp assembly to install the shackle onto an arm of the load cell;
- identifying a rod rotator and an actuator lever;
- removing a spring cable from the actuator lever;
- and
- removing a screw pin from a pinned shackle of the safety clamp assembly to line holes of the pinned shackle up with a hole on the spring cable and replace the screw pin.
