Abstract
An electrochemical reaction apparatus includes: a cathode that includes a first catalyst that reduces carbon dioxide to carbon monoxide; an anode; an electrolytic solution that contains a reactant and an electrolyte; and a second catalyst that synthesizes an oxygen-containing organic material from the carbon monoxide and the reactant, in which the electrolytic solution has a convection flow, and the direction of the convection flow is formed so that the electrolytic solution comes into contact with the first catalyst and the second catalyst in this order.
Claims25
An electrochemical reaction apparatus comprising:
- a cathode comprising a first catalyst that reduces carbon dioxide to carbon monoxide;
- an anode;
- an electrolytic solution comprising a reactant and an electrolyte;
- and
- a second catalyst that synthesizes an oxygen-containing organic material from the carbon monoxide and the reactant,
- the electrolytic solution having a convection flow, a direction of the convection flow formed so that the electrolytic solution comes into contact with the first catalyst and the second catalyst in this order.

A method of producing an oxygen-containing organic material in which an oxygen-containing organic material is synthesized from carbon dioxide in an electrochemical reaction apparatus comprising:
- a cathode comprising a first catalyst that reduces carbon dioxide to carbon monoxide;
- an anode;
- an electrolytic solution comprising a reactant and an electrolyte;
- and a second catalyst that synthesizes an oxygen-containing organic material from the carbon monoxide and the reactant,
- a convection flow being formed in the electrolytic solution so that the electrolytic solution comes into contact with the first catalyst and the second catalyst in this order.
