Abstract
An administration device incorporating a reconstitution mechanism which may be operated by a user to combine a first compartment and second compartment. The reconstitution mechanism may include a roller arranged such that actuation of a trigger by the user causes the roller to move in a distal direction, the distal movement being such that the roller may compress a first compartment and to establish fluid communication with a second compartment. The compartments may be included in a flexible package and separated by a frangible seal. Contents of the compartments may mix, as in the case of reconstitution of a beneficial agent in a diluent. A visual indicator of the usability of a mixed substance according to conditions of time and/or temperature may be provided.
Claims21
An administration device for administering a beneficial agent, comprising:
- a storage assembly comprising a first compartment and a second compartment, the first compartment fluidly separated from the second compartment by a fluid isolation element that isolates a first interior volume of the first compartment from a second interior volume of the second compartment;
- a merging mechanism, comprising:
- a first interface element;
- a merging trigger comprising a second interface element, the second interface element being engageable with the first interface element to move relative to the storage assembly in response to manipulation of the merging trigger;
- and
- a compression element supportably engaged to the first interface element and moveable therewith, the compression element being disposed for contact of at least one of the first compartment or the second compartment in response to movement of the first interface element relative to the storage assembly to defeat the fluid isolation element and merge the first interior volume and the second interior volume;
- and
- an arming system engageable with an activation system of the administration device, the arming system configured to transition the activation system between a safe state in which the activation system is configured to prevent activation of the administration device for dispensing the beneficial agent and an armed state in which the activation system is configured to allow activation of the administration device for dispensing the beneficial agent;
- wherein the manipulation of the merging trigger is independent from action of the arming system.
