Abstract
Disclosed here is a way of imparting excellent functionality (for example, antithrombogenicity) in a medical device (particularly, a medical device including a metal base material). The medical device includes: a metal base material; and a functional layer having a polymer including a constituent unit A derived from a bonding monomer having a phosphoric acid group or a phosphonic acid group and an ethylenically unsaturated group, which is bonded to the base material, and a functional polymer chain formed of a constituent unit B derived from a functional monomer, with a terminal of the functional polymer chain being bonded to the constituent unit A.

A medical device comprising:
- a metal base material;
- and
- a functional layer having a polymer including a constituent unit A derived from a bonding monomer having a phosphoric acid group or a phosphonic acid group and an ethylenically unsaturated group, which is bonded to the base material, and a functional polymer chain formed of a constituent unit B derived from a functional monomer, with a terminal of the functional polymer chain being bonded to the constituent unit A.
A medical device configured to be positioned in a living body and comprising:
- a metal base material having a surface;
- a functional polymer chain immobilized on the surface of the metal base material by way of a constituent unit A derived from a bonding monomer so that the medical device has a functional layer to be contacted with the living body during use of the medical device;
- the bonding monomer including an ethylenically unsaturated group as well as a phosphoric acid group or a phosphonic acid group;
- the functional polymer chain being formed of a constituent unit B derived from a functional monomer;
- and
- the functional polymer chain having a terminal that is bonded to the constituent unit A.
A method for manufacturing a medical device, the method comprising:
- irradiating at least a part of a surface of a base material with plasma;
- bringing a bonding monomer into contact with the base material after irradiation with the plasma, the bonding monomer having a phosphoric acid group or a phosphonic acid group and an ethylenically unsaturated group;
- and
- bringing a functional monomer into contact with the base material after contact with the bonding monomer to form a functional polymer chain on the surface of the base material via a constituent unit A derived from the bonding monomer, the functional polymer chain being formed of a constituent unit B derived from a functional monomer.
