Abstract
Disclosed is a prosthetic joint assembly for joining a humerus bone to a scapula bone, comprising a humeral component adapted for engagement with said humerus bone and a concave dish; a scapular component adapted for engagement with said scapula bone and a convex surface adapted to engage said concave dish; wherein when said components are implanted and engaged in a rest position said prosthetic center of rotation is displaced in a direction that is inferior and medial relative to a natural center of rotation and said humerus bone is displaced in a direction that is inferior relative to said natural center of rotation.
Claims22
A prosthetic joint system comprising:
- a scapular baseplate comprising:
- a surface adapted to interface with a scapula bone, and
- a trunnion, the trunnion comprising a first screw hole;
- a glenosphere component comprising:
- an aperture configured to interface with the trunnion, and
- a second screw hole coaxial with the first screw hole and open to the aperture;
- and
- a screw assembly comprising:
- a first screw configured to interface with the first screw hole,
- a second screw configured to interface with the second screw hole, and
- a locking cap configured to rigidly engage the first screw with the second screw,
- wherein the screw assembly is configured to extend from the second screw hole, through the first screw hole, and extend beyond the surface of the scapular baseplate to rigidly engage the glenosphere component with the scapula bone, and
- wherein the prosthetic joint system, when implanted, causes a translation of an anatomical center of rotation (COR) to a prosthetic COR.
A screw assembly of a prosthetic joint system, the screw assembly comprising:
- a first screw configured to interface with a first screw hole of a scapular baseplate, wherein the scapular baseplate comprises:
- a surface adapted to interface with a scapula bone, and
- a trunnion comprising the first screw hole;
- a second screw configured to interface with a second screw hole of a glenosphere component, wherein:
- the second screw hole is coaxial with the first screw hole and open to an aperture of the glenosphere component, and
- the aperture is configured to interface with the trunnion;
- and
- a locking cap configured to rigidly engage the first screw with the second screw, wherein the screw assembly is configured to extend from the second screw hole, through the first screw hole, and extend beyond the surface of the scapular baseplate to rigidly engage the glenosphere component with the scapula bone.
A method of providing a prosthetic joint system comprising:
- providing a scapular baseplate comprising:
- a surface adapted to interface with a scapula bone, and
- a trunnion, the trunnion comprising a first screw hole;
- providing a glenosphere component comprising:
- an aperture configured to interface with the trunnion, and
- a second screw hole coaxial with the first screw hole and open to the aperture;
- and
- providing a screw assembly to engage the glenosphere component and the scapular baseplate with the scapula bone, wherein providing the screw assembly comprises:
- providing a first screw through the first screw hole,
- providing a second screw through the second screw hole, and
- providing a locking cap to rigidly engage the first screw with the second screw.
