Abstract
A content provider has a plurality of content provider domain names, and a content delivery network (CDN) allocates a plurality of CDN domain names to the particular content provider. The content provider domain names are mapped to the CDN domain names. CDN domain names are bound to corresponding CDN clusters. The binding of the CDN domain names to corresponding CDN clusters is modified.
Claims20
A method comprising:
- requesting a content to a content provider;
- associating the content with one or more delivery servers by one or more rendezvous system;
- and
- providing the content to a client via one or more origin sources and the one or more delivery servers via one or more networks, wherein the one or more delivery servers are logically and/or physically organized hierarchically.

A computer system comprising:
- one or more processors;
- a memory,
- removable storage media,
- mass storage,
- one or more communications ports connected to one or more networks to receive and/or transmit data;
- and
- a bus, wherein the bus communicates with the one or more processors, the memory, the removable storage media, and the mass storage;
- wherein the memory, operatively connected to the one or more processors, stores instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the computer system to:
- (a) maintain a binding of a first plurality of network domain names to corresponding clusters, wherein each of the first plurality of network domain names is bound to at least one cluster;
- (b) maintain, for at least some of the clusters, a first mapping;
- and then
- (c) determine a second mapping, based on at least correlating a first plurality of provider domain names included in one or more data requests received at one or more clusters with the one or more clusters receiving such requests and using the first mapping to correlate the first plurality of provider domain names to the first plurality of network domain names;
- and
- (d) determine an amount of traffic or load associated with a particular domain name of a data provider;
- and
- (e) based at least in part on the amount of traffic or load determined in (d) and the second mapping, modify the binding of the first plurality of network domain names to corresponding clusters.
