Abstract
A technique for forming a bio-based dihydroxyphenol monomer that is derived from bio-naphtha (e.g., “bio-BP”) and a bio-liquid crystalline polymer (“bio-LCP”) formed therefrom is provided.
Claims20
A method for forming a bio-dihydroxyphenol monomer for use in a liquid crystalline polymer, the method comprising:
- providing a bio-dialkylated benzene that is derived from bio-naphtha;
- oxidizing the bio-dialkylated benzene to form a bio-dialkylated benzene peroxide radical;
- and
- subjecting the bio-dialkylated benzene peroxide radical to acid decomposition to form the bio-dihydroxyphenol.

A bio-liquid crystalline polymer comprising repeating units derived from one or more dihydroxyphenols, optional repeating units derived from one or more aromatic hydroxycarboxylic acids, optional repeating units derived from one or more dicarboxylic acids, and optional repeating units derived from one or more biphenols, wherein the one or more dihydroxyphenols include a bio-hydroquinone derived from bio-naphtha.
