Abstract
A glass tube for pharmaceutical containers and a manufacturing process for a glass tube are provided. The glass tubes are characterized by a homogenous and low alkali leachability on the inner surface.
Claims20
A method of manufacturing a glass tube, comprising:
- causing a glass melt to flow onto a pipe head at a flow rate;
- maintaining a temperature of the glass melt at the pipe head between a first temperature corresponding to a viscosity of the glass melt of 106.5 dPa·s and a second temperature corresponding to a viscosity of the glass melt of 104.5 dPa·s;
- and
- controlling a normalised back diffusion density to at least 0.005 and less than 0.1.

A method of manufacturing a glass tube, comprising:
- providing a glass melt;
- drawing the glass melt to form the glass tube having a length along a drawing direction from a first edge to a second edge of between 500 to 3500 mm;
- and
- controlling the providing and/or drawing steps so that the glass tube has an absolute difference of first hydrolytic resistance and a second hydrolytic resistance is less than 0.20 μg cm−2, the first and second hydrolytic resistances being measured at non-overlapping sections of the glass tube that each extend on an inner surface of the glass tube at least 60 mm along the drawing direction, wherein the first and second alkali leachabilities are determined as Na2O equivalents in an eluate prepared according to ISO 4802-2:2010.
