## Abstract

The present disclosure relates to compositions including a UV absorbing system including at least one physical ultraviolet (UV)-attenuating material and substantially spherical cellulose particles, as well as to methods of making and using such compositions.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A composition comprising a UV absorbing system comprising at least one physical ultraviolet (UV)-attenuating material, preferably at least one metal oxide selected from oxides of titanium, chromium, zinc, tin, alumina, cerium, and/or iron, and substantially spherical cellulose particles, wherein the substantially spherical cellulose particles are present in an amount sufficient to increase UV efficacy of the composition.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The composition of claim 1, further comprising at least one antioxidant.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The composition of claim 1, further comprising ethylhexyl methoxycrylene and/or diethylhexyl syringylidene malonate.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The composition of claim 1, wherein the substantially spherical cellulose particles comprise cellulose microbeads.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The composition of claim 1, wherein the SPF value of the composition is at least 30.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The composition of claim 1, wherein the at least one physical ultraviolet (UV)-attenuating material and the substantially spherical cellulose particles are present in the composition in a weight ratio from about 10:1 to about 1:1.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The composition of claim 1, wherein the at least one physical ultraviolet (UV)-attenuating material is present in the composition in an amount of at least 5% by weight with respect to the total weight of the composition, preferably about 5% to about 40% by weight with respect to the total weight of the composition.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The composition of claim 1, wherein the composition is devoid of organic UV filters.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The composition of claim 1, wherein the composition has a UVA1/UV ratio of 0.7 or higher and/or a Critical Wavelength of 370 nm or higher.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The composition of claim 1, wherein the composition is non-greasy and/or non-whitening upon application to keratinous material.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The composition of claim 1, wherein the at least one UV absorbing system essentially contains at least one physical ultraviolet (UV)-attenuating material.

### Claim 12 (depends on 1)

The composition of claim 1, wherein the at least one physical ultraviolet (UV)-attenuating material is selected from the group consisting of titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, iron oxide, chromium oxide, tin oxide, alumina, cerium oxide, and mixtures thereof.

### Claim 13 (depends on 1)

The composition of claim 1, wherein the at least one physical ultraviolet (UV)-attenuating material is surface treated with a surface treatment agent, preferably the surface treating agent comprising at least one of amino acids, beeswax, fatty acids, fatty acid salts, fatty alcohols, anionic surfactants, lecithin compounds, metal alkoxides, polyethylene, silicones, proteins, alkanolamines, silicon oxides, metal oxides different from the at least one physical ultraviolet (UV)-attenuating material, sodium hexametaphosphate, alumina, glycerol, and mixtures thereof.
