Abstract
A solvent composition for carbon capture according to a preferred embodiment comprises at least two of the following: diethylaminoethanol (DEAE), hexamethylenediamine (HMDA), and polyethylenimine (PEI). Another embodiment includes a method of performing carbon capture using the carbon capture solvent compositions described herein. Another embodiment provides an apparatus for performing carbon capture using the carbon capture compositions described herein and/or the carbon capture methods described herein.
Claims14
A solvent for extracting carbon dioxide from a gaseous mixture, the solvent comprising diethylaminoethanol (DEAE), hexamethylenediamine (HMDA), and water.
The solvent as claimed in claim 5, wherein DEAE is present in molar concentration of 3.6 M and HMDA is present in molar concentration of 0.4 M.
A solvent for extracting carbon dioxide from a gaseous mixture, the solvent comprising diethylaminoethanol (DEAE), hexamethylenediamine (HMDA), wherein DEAE is present in molar concentration ranging from 3.6 M to 4.5 M and HMDA is present in molar concentration ranging from 0.15 M to 0.5 M.
A solvent for extracting carbon dioxide from a gaseous mixture, the solvent comprising:
- (a) a molar concentration in the range of 2.0 M to 4.0 M of a compound I which is a tertiary amine, having a chemical formula of (R1)(R2)N(CnH2n—OH), where R1 and R2 are independently a linear or branched alkyl group with a carbon number between 1 to 6, and n is an integer between 1 to 6;
- (b) a molar concentration in the range of 0.1 M to 1.0 M of a compound II which comprises two primary amino groups, having a chemical formula of NH2—(CmH2m)—NH2, where m is an integer between 2 to 10;
- and
- (c) water.
A method of performing carbon capture comprising the steps of:
- (a) collecting a flue gas comprising carbon dioxide from a flue gas emitting source;
- and
- (b) exposing the collected flue gas to a solvent comprising diethylaminoethanol (DEAE), hexamethylenediamine (HMDA), and water, the exposing step lasting for a period of time sufficient to remove at least a portion of said carbon dioxide gas present in said flue gas.
