Abstract
A method of delivering and deploying a valve prosthesis includes delivering the valve prosthesis disposed in a delivery catheter to a native valve, proximally retracting a delivery catheter tube of the delivery catheter such that three engagement arms of a support of the valve prosthesis are released from the delivery catheter tube and flare outwardly while an inflow frame portion of the support remains within a distal portion of the delivery catheter, and distally advancing the distal portion of the delivery catheter such that the inflow frame portion is released from the distal portion.
Claims18
A valve prosthesis comprising:
- a self-expanding support comprising:
- a proximal skirt comprising exactly two rows of cells extending entirely around a circumference of the support, wherein a distal-most row of the exactly two rows of cells includes a plurality of peaks defining a distal end of each cell;
- and
- exactly three engagement arms that meet one another at three respective junctures, wherein the engagement arms are concave with respect to an outflow end of the valve prosthesis, wherein each juncture is aligned with a corresponding peak of the plurality of peaks, and wherein at least two peaks of the plurality of peaks are disposed between adjacent peaks aligned with the junctures;
- and
- a prosthetic valve coupled to the support;
- wherein the valve prosthesis is configured to be disposed in a native valve complex having three semilunar sinuses and three native commissures, wherein each of the exactly three engagement arms is configured to be at least partially disposed within a respective one of the three semilunar sinuses such that each trough is disposed within the respective one of the three semilunar sinuses.
More specifically, depending on the size of the prosthesis, distance 1843 is between about 1 mm and about 10 mm;
- alternatively between about 1 mm to about 12 mm, or between about 1 mm to about 14 mm;
- alternatively, between about 2 mm and about 9 mm, or between about 2 mm to about 10 mm;
- alternatively between about 3 mm to about 8 mm;
- alternatively between about 4 mm to about 6 mm. The design of support structure 1800 provides a frame that can conform to the patient-specific anatomy, including variability in calcium loads, while maintaining the correct position of the support structure, and therefore ensuring proper valve function.
A valve prosthesis comprising:
- a self-expanding support comprising:
- exactly three engagement arms that meet one another at three respective junctures, wherein the engagement arms are shaped so as to define three troughs;
- three peak complexes at the three respective junctures, each trough disposed between two of the peak complexes and each peak complex comprising three local peaks and two local troughs;
- exactly three support arms;
- exactly three commissure posts, each commissure post disposed at a corresponding one of the three respective junctures;
- wherein a first engagement arm of the exactly three engagement arms includes a first end coupled to a first juncture of the three respective junctures and a second end coupled to a second juncture of the three respective junctures, and a first trough of the three troughs is disposed between the first end and the second end of the first engagement arm,
- wherein a second engagement arm of the exactly three engagement arms includes a first end coupled to the second juncture and a second end coupled to a third juncture of the three respective junctures, and a second trough of the three troughs is disposed between the first end and the second end of the second engagement arm,
- wherein a third engagement arm of the exactly three engagement arms includes a first end coupled to the third juncture and a second end coupled to the first juncture, and a third trough of the three troughs is disposed between the first end and the second end of the third engagement arm,
- wherein a first support arm of the exactly three support arms includes a first end coupled to the first engagement arm between the first juncture and the first trough and a second end coupled to the first engagement arm between the first trough and the second juncture,
- wherein a second support arm of the exactly three support arms includes a first end coupled to the second engagement arm between the second juncture and the second trough and a second end coupled to the second engagement arm between the second trough and the third juncture, and
- wherein a third support arm of the exactly three support arms includes a first end coupled to the third engagement arm between the third juncture and the third trough and a second end coupled to the third engagement arm between the third trough and the first juncture;
- an inflow frame portion including a row of cells, wherein the row of cells defines an inflow end of the inflow frame portion configured to engage a native annulus of a native valve;
- a graft covering coupled to the inflow frame portion;
- three coverings, each covering coupled to a corresponding trough of the three troughs;
- and
- a prosthetic valve coupled to the support;
