Abstract
A simple, inflatable lift-assist device whereby a person on the ground who needs help to stand or be moved, maneuvers (or is helped) onto the deflated device, then the device is slowly and controllably inflated to assist with lifting the individual off the ground and into a seated state from which the person can either stand or be further assisted by a caregiver. The inflation is controlled by implementing separate inflation chambers within the device and safety attachments to the outside of the device. A plurality of air pumps may be utilized to further control inflation rates and sequencing.
Claims5
An inflatable lift assist chair device comprising:
- an inflatable structure comprising a seat structure, a back structure, and a pair of side structures, the seat structure being configured to support a lower body of a user, the back structure extending upwardly from the seat structure configured to support a back area of the user, and the pair of side structures being positioned on opposite sides of the seat structure and extending upwardly configured to assist the user in maintaining lateral stability during use;
- a plurality of separate inflation chambers comprising a back structure inflation chamber configured to inflate the back structure, a seat structure inflation chamber configured to inflate the seat structure, and a pair of side structure inflation chambers, one placed in each side structure configured to inflate each such side structure, each separately connected to one or more electrically powered air pumps;
- an inflation enclosure integrated into a front portion of the seat structure, the inflation enclosure comprising:
- a power cord stored within a cord storage compartment, the power cord being extendable for connection to an external AC power receptacle;
- a pair of inflation control switches, each switch having a first position for activating inflation, a second position for activating deflation, and an off position for maintaining the status quo;
- said pair of electrically powered air pumps configured to be operatively connected to the inflation control switches and configured to control air flow into and out of each of the separate inflation chambers at predetermined rates with respect to each other;
- wherein the inflatable structure is configured to transition from a generally deflated configuration to a fully inflated configuration in under three minutes, and in the fully inflated configuration is capable of supporting a user having a weight up to 350 pounds;
- and,
- wherein the inflatable lift assist chair further comprises a safety belt having a fastening system and integrated padding, and at least one pair of handles positioned on the upper surfaces of the side structures, the handles being integrally formed with the side structures and configured to provide gripping support during user transitions.
