Abstract
A food grade taggant for an edible matrix may comprise a light triggered microtransponder comprising a monolithic integrated circuit. The monolithic integrated circuit may be enclosed within a passivation layer that forms a barrier with the edible matrix. The monolithic integrated circuit may have maximum dimensions of 2 mm length, 2 mm width, and 0.2 mm thickness.

- a light triggered microtransponder comprising a circuit;
- and
- the circuit enclosed within a passivation layer that forms a barrier with the edible matrix.
A method comprising:
- associating an edible matrix with a light triggered microtransponder comprising a circuit, the circuit being enclosed within a passivation layer that forms a barrier with the edible matrix.
