Abstract
The present invention relates to a method for producing a zinc oxide-functionalized calcium carbonate composite, a zinc oxide-functionalized calcium carbonate composite obtainable by a method, an article comprising the zinc oxide-functionalized calcium carbonate composite as well as the use of the zinc oxide-functionalized calcium carbonate composite in an aqueous preparation or in a solid article.
Claims20
A method for producing a zinc oxide-functionalized calcium carbonate composite, the method comprising the steps of
- a) providing a calcium carbonate-comprising material,
- b) providing at least one water soluble or water dispersable source of zinc ions,
- c) preparing under mixing an aqueous suspension comprising the calcium carbonate-comprising material of step a) and the at least one water soluble or water dispersable source of zinc ions of step b) and heating the aqueous suspension to a temperature of at least 60° C.,
- d) drying the aqueous suspension of step c) to obtain a dried mixture, and
- e) thermally treating the dried mixture obtained in step d) at a temperature ranging from 250 to 550° C. to obtain the zinc oxide-functionalized calcium carbonate composite.
