Abstract
Output signals from ground power units can be combined to supply more energy for aircraft to use for starting a jet engine. The combining can be possible when the outputs from the ground power units are synchronized. In a synchronization process, a first ground power unit may be started so that its first output signal serves as a reference for the synchronization. Then, an interconnect on a second ground power unit can be toggled to start and stop the generation of a second output signal at different times until the signals are in phase (i.e., synchronized).

A method for adjusting a phase of a ground power unit, the method comprising:
- receiving a reference signal;
- triggering the ground power unit to output an output signal;
- comparing the output signal to the reference signal to measure a phase shift;
- disabling the ground power unit from outputting the output signal for a period;
- and
- restarting the ground power unit after the period to adjust the phase shift of the output signal relative to the reference signal.
A system, comprising:
- a ground power unit;
- and
- a processing module coupled to the ground power unit, the processing module configured to:
- receive a reference signal;
- trigger the ground power unit to output an output signal;
- compare the output signal to the reference signal to measure a phase shift;
- disable the ground power unit from outputting the output signal for a period;
- and
- restart the ground power unit after the period to adjust the phase shift of the output signal relative to the reference signal.
