Vehicle control for automated vehicles

A method of operating a vehicle, comprising:

• receiving an instruction at a human machine interface to select between a first mode of operation of the vehicle and a second mode of operation of the vehicle, the human machine interface including a display and a convertible interface, the convertible interface including a touch-sensitive surface and connected to a universal joint;
• in the first mode of operation, moving the convertible interface to a first position with respect to the human machine interface and receiving a command from an operator via a gesture at the touch-sensitive surface;
• and
• in the second mode of operation, moving the convertible interface to a second position and receiving the command from the operator through a motion of the touch-sensitive surface that rotates the universal joint.

A method of operating an autonomous vehicle, comprising:

• entering a command at a remote screen of a remote communication device;
• communicating the command from the remote communication device to a processor of the autonomous vehicle;
• and
• controlling, via the processor, the autonomous vehicle based on the command.
