Abstract
Aspects of the disclosure provide for determining whether a vehicle is in a loop for an autonomous vehicle. For instance, a route from a current location of the vehicle to a destination for a trip may be generated. Locations traversed by the vehicle during the trip may be tracked. Locations of the route may be compared to the tracked locations to determine an overlap value. Whether the vehicle is in a loop may be determined based on the overlap value.
Claims20
A method comprising:
- determining, by one or more processors of a vehicle operating in an autonomous driving mode, whether the vehicle has passed through a location while following a route more than once such that the vehicle is currently driving in a loop, the route being from a current location of the vehicle to a destination;
- and
- based on determining that the vehicle is currently driving in the loop:
- determining, by the one or more processors, a mitigation response to cause the vehicle to exit the loop based on a distance from the current location of the vehicle to the destination;
- and
- performing, by the one or more processors, the mitigation response.
A system comprising one or more processors of a vehicle configured to:
- determine whether the vehicle has passed through a location while following a route more than once such that the vehicle is currently driving in a loop, the route being from a current location of the vehicle to a destination;
- and
- based on a determination that the vehicle is currently driving in the loop:
- determine a mitigation response to cause the vehicle to exit the loop based on a distance from the current location of the vehicle to the destination;
- and
- perform the mitigation response.
