Abstract
[Problem] To perform selective hydrogenolysis of a cyclic compound that has a five-membered ring structure and that is included in a saturated cyclic compound used as a hydrogen carrier. [Solution] A metal catalyst used in hydrogenolysis of a cyclic compound that has a five-membered ring structure and that is included in a saturated cyclic compound used as a hydrogen carrier, comprises: a silica-based carrier as a catalyst carrier, and iridium or rhodium as a metal supported on the catalyst carrier.

A metal catalyst used in hydrogenolysis of a cyclic compound that has a five-membered ring structure and that is included in a saturated cyclic compound used as a hydrogen carrier, comprising:
- a silica-based carrier as a catalyst carrier;
- and
- iridium or rhodium as metal supported on the catalyst carrier.
