Abstract
Embodiments of the disclosed subject matter provide a device having a full-color organic light emitting device (OLED) display having a plurality of pixels, with each pixel having a plurality of sub-pixels and where no individual sub-pixel of the plurality of sub-pixels emits white light. The OLED display may be configured to operate with a luminance of at least 1,000 cd/m2 at the D65 or higher white point, and using not more than a 0.5 mA/cm2 drive current for a blue sub-pixel of the plurality of sub-pixels based on an overall active area of the full-color OLED display.

A device comprising:
- a full-color organic light emitting device (OLED) display comprising a plurality of pixels, with each pixel comprising a plurality of sub-pixels and where no individual sub-pixel of the plurality of sub-pixels emits white light,
- wherein the OLED display is configured to operate with a luminance of at least 1,000 cd/m2 at the D65 or higher white point, and using not more than a 0.5 mA/cm2 drive current for a blue sub-pixel of the plurality of sub-pixels based on an overall active area of the full-color OLED display, and
- wherein at least one sub-pixel of the plurality of sub-pixels comprises:
- a first electrode;
- an organic emissive layer comprising an organic emissive material disposed over the first electrode;
- and
- an enhancement layer comprising a plasmonic material exhibiting surface plasmon resonance that non-radiatively couples to the organic emissive material and transfers excited state energy from the organic emissive material to a non-radiative mode of surface plasmon polaritons, disposed over the organic emissive layer.
A consumer electronic device comprising:
- a first electrode;
- an organic emissive layer comprising an organic emissive material disposed over the first electrode;
- and
- an enhancement layer comprising a plasmonic material exhibiting surface plasmon resonance that non-radiatively couples to the organic emissive material and transfers excited state energy from the organic emissive material to a non-radiative mode of surface plasmon polaritons, disposed over the organic emissive layer, wherein the enhancement layer is provided no more than a threshold distance away from the organic emissive layer.
