Methods and procedures for unequal modulation over spatial streams and frequency segments

A station (STA) comprising:

• a transceiver;
• and
• a processor,
• wherein the transceiver and processor are configured to:
• determine, for each spatial stream of a plurality of spatial streams, a plurality of frequency subblocks, wherein each frequency subblock of the plurality of frequency subblocks includes one or more respective resource units (RUs) and has an associated modulation order, and each RU of the one or more respective RUs includes a respective number of occupied data tones;
• parse a bit sequence corresponding to an OFDM symbol into the plurality of spatial streams;
• and
• for each spatial stream of the plurality of spatial streams:
• allocate, for each frequency subblock of the plurality of frequency subblocks determined for the spatial stream, a respective number of consecutive bits of the OFDM symbol that corresponds to the associated modulation order of the frequency subblock and the respective number of occupied data tones in the respective one or more RUs of the frequency subblock.
