Multiphase biocatalytic reactor and separator system

An integrated multiphase biocatalytic reactor and separator system comprising one or more inlets for feeding reactor contents, an upflow reaction section, a separation section, and a recycle flow section, wherein:

• the upflow reaction section comprises a gas phase inlet, which gas phase inlet is arranged to introduce a gas phase,
• the separation section is configured to direct an effluent flow received from the upflow reaction section in a lateral direction with respect to a net flow direction in the upflow reactor section, along a first separation zone and a second separation zone,
• the first separation zone is at least configured for degassing the effluent flow,
• the second separation zone which is a liquid-liquid phase separator configured for receiving a degassed effluent flow from the first separation zone and which is at least configured to separate the degassed effluent flow in a lower liquid phase and an upper liquid phase,
• the separation section, further comprising a gas phase outlet, the separation section further comprising a first separator outlet for the lower liquid phase and a second separator outlet for discharging the upper liquid phase;
• and
• the recycle flow section comprises a recycle flow section inlet for the lower liquid phase that is fluidly connected to the first separator outlet for the lower liquid phase and a recycle flow section outlet opening into the upflow reaction section.
