Abstract
A respiratory therapy system configured to deliver gases to a patient can have a non-sealed gas flow generating arrangement configured to deliver a high flow of positive gas to an airway of a patient and a negative flow of gas away from an airway of the patient. The positive and negative flows of gas can be generated simultaneously. The flow of positive and negative gases reduces exhaled gases in anatomical dead spaces of the patient.

(canceled)
A non-sealing patient interface for a respiratory therapy system comprising:
- a first nasal prong and a second nasal prong;
- a manifold;
- a first passageway providing inspiratory gas flow to nares of a patient and a second passageway providing expiratory gas flow from the nares of the patient, wherein the first passageway and the second passageway are positioned within a single conduit, the single conduit configured to interface with a single side of the manifold;
- and
- wherein the first passageway and the second passageway are positioned within the manifold.
A respiratory therapy system comprising:
- a first gases flow source;
- a second gases flow source;
- a patient interface comprising:
- a first nasal prong and a second nasal prong,
- a manifold,
- a first passageway fluidly coupled to the first nasal prong and a second passageway fluidly coupled to the second nasal prong,
- a barrier adapted to isolate gas flow in the first passageway from an expiratory gas flow in the second passageway,
- the first passageway fluidly coupled to a first gas flow source,
- a second passageway fluidly coupled to a second gas flow source, and
- wherein the gas flow toward a patient via the first nasal prong and out of the patient via the second nasal prong.
