Abstract
This invention provides a method of treating hypertension in a hypertensive subject, the method administering to the subject, an amount of a diuretic and an amount of a CYP 11β2 beta hydroxylase inhibitor once or twice per day, wherein the amounts taken together are sufficient to treat hypertension in the hypertensive subject when taken in combination with other antihypertensive agents. In particular, the method is sufficient to elicit a safe and robust reduction in hypertension (>10 mmHg reduction in systolic blood pressure) in the hypertensive subject.
Claims46
A method of treating hypertension in a hypertensive subject, the method comprising administering to the subject, an amount of a diuretic and an amount of a CYP 11β2 beta hydroxylase inhibitor once or twice per day, wherein the amounts taken together are sufficient to treat hypertension in the hypertensive subject.
A method of treating hypertension in a hypertensive subject who is taking at least one diuretic, the method comprising administering to the subject a CYP 11β2 beta hydroxylase inhibitor once or twice per day in an amount sufficient to thereby treat hypertension in the hypertensive subject.
A method of treating hypertension in a hypertensive subject in need thereof, the method comprising
- a) measuring
- i) a systolic blood pressure of greater than 130 mmHg in said subject;
- ii) a diastolic BP of greater than 80 mmHg in said subject;
- and
- b) selecting a subject who is taking at least one diuretic;
- and
- c) administering to said subject an effective amount of a CYP 11β2 beta hydroxylase inhibitor.
A method of treating hypertension in a hypertensive subject in need thereof, the method comprising
- a) receiving an identification of the hypertensive subject as
- i) having a systolic blood pressure of greater than 130 mmHg;
- ii) having a diastolic BP of greater than 80 mmHg;
- and
- iii) taking at least one diuretic;
- and
- b) administering to said subject an effective amount of a CYP 11β2 beta hydroxylase inhibitor.
A method of identifying a subject for hypertension treatment with a CYP 11β2 beta hydroxylase inhibitor, the method comprising:
- a) measuring:
- i) a systolic blood pressure of greater than 130 mmHg in said subject;
- and
- ii) a diastolic BP of greater than 80 mmHg in said subject;
- and
- b) selecting a subject who is taking at least one diuretic;
- thereby identifying said subject for hypertension treatment with a CYP 11β2 beta hydroxylase inhibitor.
A package comprising:
- a) a first pharmaceutical composition comprising an amount of a compound of Formula (A) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof:
- and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier;
- b) a second pharmaceutical composition comprising an amount of a thiazide diuretic and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier;
- and
- c) instructions for use of the first and second pharmaceutical compositions together to treat a subject afflicted with hypertension.
A compound of Formula (A) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof:
- for use as an add-on therapy or in combination with a thiazide diuretic in treating a subject afflicted with hypertension.
A pharmaceutical composition comprising
- a) an amount of the compound of Formula (A) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof:
- b) and an amount of a thiazide diuretic for use in treating a subject afflicted with hypertension, wherein the compound of Formula (A) and the thiazide diuretic are administered simultaneously, contemporaneously or concomitantly.
A pharmaceutical composition comprising
- a) an amount of the compound of Formula (A) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof:
- b) and an amount of a thiazide diuretic
- wherein the compound of Formula (A) and thiazide diuretic are each present in amounts which together are effective to treat hypertension in a hypertensive subject.
A pharmaceutical composition comprising an amount of the compound of Formula (A) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof:
- for use in treating a subject afflicted with hypertension as an add-on therapy or in combination with a thiazide diuretic.
A therapeutic package for dispensing to, or for use in dispensing to, a subject afflicted with hypertension, which comprises:
- a) one or more unit doses, each such unit dose comprising:
- i) an amount of the compound of Formula (A) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof:
- and
- ii) an amount of a thiazide diuretic,
- wherein the respective amounts of said compound of Formula (A) and said thiazide diuretic in said unit dose are effective, upon concomitant administration to said subject, to treat the subject, and
- b) a finished pharmaceutical container therefor, said container containing said unit dose or unit doses, said container further containing or comprising labeling directing the use of said package in the treatment of said subject.
A pharmaceutical composition in unit dosage form, useful in treating a subject afflicted with hypertension, which comprises:
- a) an amount of the compound of Formula (A) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof:
- and
- b) an amount of a thiazide diuretic,
- wherein the respective amounts of said compound of Formula (A) and said thiazide diuretic in said composition are effective, upon concomitant administration to said subject of one or more of said unit dosage forms of said composition, to treat the subject.
