Abstract
Presently described are compositions and methods for reactive gel materials for sustained water-based reactions. The reactive materials can be used as reactive coatings for fabrics for protection against harmful chemicals. as fire retarding barriers on surfaces. as chemical detectors for dry surfaces. and as recyclable coatings for carbon capture.
Claims15
A reactive gel material comprising
- i) a base liquid component including water and at least one non-evaporative hygroscopic liquid at a ratio of from 0:1 to 1:4 based on the weight of the liquid component;
- ii) an effective amount of at least one chemical reagent;
- and
- iii) at least one hydrophilic gelling agent at a ratio of from 5:100 to about 100:100 based on the weight of the based liquid component and the at least one chemical reagent,
- wherein components (i)-(iii) form a reactive gel material matrix.
