Abstract
Methods and apparatus for providing circadian-friendly LED light sources are disclosed. A light source is formed to include a first LED emission (e.g., one or more LEDs emitting a first spectrum) and a second LED emission (e.g., one or more LEDs emitting a second spectrum) wherein the first and second LED emissions are combined in a first ratio and in a second ratio such that while changing from the first ratio to the second ratio the relative circadian stimulation is varied while maintaining a color rendering index above 80.

(canceled)
A backlight for a display comprising:
- an emission surface;
- one or more light emitters operatively connected to said emission surface for causing said emission surface to emit first white light in a low CS mode and second white light in a high CS mode,
- said first white light having a first spectral power distribution (SPD), said first SPD having a first overall power from 350 nm to 850 nm and a first violet power fraction from 400-440 nm (Fv1), a first cyan power fraction from 440-500 nm (Fc1), wherein said Fv1 is at least 0.2 of said first overall power, and said Fc1 is no greater than 0.20 of said first overall power;
- and
- said second white light having a first spectral power distribution (SPD), said first SPD having a second overall power from 350 nm to 850 nm and a second violet power from 400-440 nm (Fv2), and a second cyan power from 440-500 nm (Fc2), wherein said Fv2 is less than 0.20 of said second overall power, and Fc2 is at least 0.20 of said second overall power.
