Binding agent for cellulose containing materials and the product containing it

A binding agent comprising:

• a protein component of animal blood, in an amount from 5% to 30% by weight of the binding agent,
• a polyhydric alcohol comprising from 2 to 6 —OH groups in an amount from 5% to 45% by weight of the binding agent,
• a defoaming agent in an amount from 0.1% to 5% by weight of the binding agent,
• and water up to 100% by weight of the binding agent,
• wherein said binding agent does not comprise an ammonium salt and does not comprise formaldehyde.

A composite material comprising using a binding agent to form the composite material from a cellulose-containing starting material, wherein the binding agent comprises:

• a protein component of animal blood, in an amount from 5% to 30% by weight of the binding agent,
• a polyhydric alcohol comprising from 2 to 6 —OH groups in an amount from 5% to 45% by weight of the binding agent,
• a defoaming agent in an amount from 0.1% to 5% by weight of the binding agent,
• and water up to 100% by weight of the binding agent,
• wherein said binding agent does not comprise an ammonium salt and does not comprise formaldehyde.

A process for producing a cellulose-containing composite material comprising:

• spraying a binding agent onto a cellulose-containing material or applying the binding agent to the cellulose-containing material with a roller to produce the cellulose-containing composite material, wherein the binding agent comprises:
• a protein component of animal blood, in an amount from 5% to 30% by weight of the binding agent,
• a polyhydric alcohol comprising from 2 to 6 —OH groups in an amount from 5% to 45% by weight of the binding agent,
• a defoaming agent in an amount from 0.1% to 5% by weight of the binding agent,
• and water up to 100% by weight of the binding agent, wherein said binding agent does not comprise an ammonium salt and does not comprise formaldehyde.
