Modular product dispensing and verification system and method

A method for increasing throughput in dispensing, verifying, and packaging, the method comprising:

• receiving a patient order for one or more medications in a system comprising:
• at least one processor;
• a central conveyor assembly comprising a first conveyor tier and a second conveyor tier mounted in a frame, the second conveyor tier vertically spaced-apart from the first conveyor tier;
• one or more product dispensing stations for dispensing the one or more medications;
• a verification station adjacent to the one or more product dispensing stations to verify the patient order of the one or more medications;
• determining a dispensing and routing itinerary for the patient order;
• routing a dispensed medication in a transport carrier to the one or more product dispensing stations based on the dispensing and routing itinerary for the patient order;
• and
• if the patient order is not complete,
• transferring the dispensed medication in the transport carrier to another product dispensing station for accumulating additional dispensed medications;
• if the patient order is complete,
• transferring the transport carrier containing the dispensed medication directly to the verification station.

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having instructions stored thereon that, when executed by at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to perform operations, comprising:

• receiving a patient order for one or more medications in a system comprising:
• a central conveyor assembly comprising a first conveyor tier and a second conveyor tier mounted in a frame, the second conveyor tier vertically spaced apart from the first conveyor tier;
• one or more product dispensing stations for dispensing the one or more medications;
• a verification station adjacent to the one or more product dispensing stations to verify the patient order of the one or more medications;
• determining a dispensing and routing itinerary for the patient order;
• routing a dispensed medication in a transport carrier to the one or more product dispensing stations based on the dispensing and routing itinerary for the patient order;
• and
• if the patient order is not complete,
• transferring the dispensed medication in the transport carrier to another product dispensing station for accumulating additional dispensed medications;
• if the patient order is complete,
• transferring the transport carrier containing the dispensed medication directly to the verification station.
