Abstract
Disclosed are various bioactive grafts and methods of making the same. In one embodiment, bone material is harvested from a donor. The harvested bone material is exposed to a lysing agent, the lysing agent configured to release growth factors and bioactive materials from cellular material of the harvested bone material. The harvested bone material is then rinsed with a rinsing agent. The pH of the harvested bone material is substantially neutralized.
Claims19
A method of making an osteoinductive implant, comprising the steps of:
- harvesting cancellous bone material from a donor;
- extracting at least one fragment from the harvested bone material;
- exposing the at least one fragment to a lysing agent, the lysing agent configured to release growth factors and bioactive materials from cellular material of the harvested bone material, the lysing agent further comprising acetic acid having a concentration of at least 1% and a molarity range of about 0.2M to 17M;
- rinsing the harvested bone material to further clean the at least one fragment or substantially neutralize pH of the at least one fragment;
- wherein the rinsing agent is at least one of:
- water, a saline, a peroxide, an alcohol, a crystalloid, an antibiotic solution, a preserving fluid, and a storage agent;
- dehydrating the harvested bone material by performing at least one of:
- evaporation, vacuum drying, and lyophilization;
- and
- packaging the harvested bone material by vacuum sealing;
- wherein the steps of rinsing the harvested bone material and substantially neutralizing the pH of the harvested bone material is conducted after at least a portion of the released growth factors and bioactive materials binds to the harvested bone material.
A method of making an osteoinductive implant, comprising the steps of:

- exposing the harvested bone material to a lysing agent, the lysing agent configured to release growth factors and bioactive materials from cellular material of the harvested bone material;
- and
- rinsing the harvested bone material with a rinsing agent.
A bone implant prepared by a process comprising the steps of:
- harvesting bone material from a donor;
- exposing the harvested bone material to a lysing agent, the lysing agent configured to release growth factors and bioactive materials from cellular material of the harvested bone material, the lysing agent further configured to allow at least a portion of the released growth factors and bioactive material to bind to the harvested bone material;
- rinsing the harvested bone material with a rinsing agent;
- and substantially neutralizing the pH of the harvested bone material.
