Resource-conserving telemetry for constrained devices

A computing device comprising:

• one or more processors;
• and
• one or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions that, when executed, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
• receiving telemetry data at a backend system associated with a network, the telemetry data including at least contextual information associated with at least one of an endpoint or an application, available resources of one or more network devices, or geographical constraints;
• determining, by the backend system based at least in part on the telemetry data, a telemetry strategy including tracing rules or metrics defining one or more telemetry actions to be performed responsive to a condition being met;
• and
• providing, by the backend system, the telemetry strategy to a network device of the network.

A method comprising:

• receiving telemetry data at a backend system associated with a network, the telemetry data including at least contextual information associated with at least one of an endpoint or an application, available resources of one or more network devices, or geographical constraints;
• determining, by the backend system based at least in part on the telemetry data, a telemetry strategy including tracing rules or metrics defining one or more telemetry actions to be performed responsive to a condition being met;
• and
• providing, by the backend system, the telemetry strategy to a network device of the network.
