Stowing of photovoltaic modules for hail mitigation

A system, comprising:

• a motor configured to rotate one or more photovoltaic (PV) modules;
• one or more processors configured to provide commands to the motor;
• and
• one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media configured to store instructions that, in response to being executed by the one or more processors, cause the system to perform operations, the operations comprising:
• receiving weather information from a weather forecasting service, the weather information including a location of a weather event and movement of the weather event relative to a location of a solar site having a tracking system in which the one or more PV modules change their angular orientations to track a position of the Sun;
• determining a current tracked angle of the one or more PV modules in the tracking system;
• determining an expected arrival time of the weather event at the location of the solar site;
• identifying a time at which to trigger movement of the one or more PV modules into a stow position, wherein the identified time is based at least on the current tracked angle of the one or more PV modules in the tracking system and the expected arrival time of the weather event at the location of the solar site;
• and
• triggering movement of the one or more PV modules into the stow position at the identified time.
