Abstract
A fuel injector for a gaseous fuel and having: an injection nozzle; a support body, which ends in the injection nozzle; an injection valve, which is configured to adjust the gaseous fuel flow through the injection nozzle and is provided with a movable shutter arranged and with a valve seat; and an actuator, which is configured to move the shutter between a closed position of the injection valve, in which the shutter is pressed against the valve seat, and an open position of the injection valve, in which the shutter is separate from the valve seat.
Claims15
A fuel injector for a gaseous fuel and comprising:
- an injection nozzle;
- a support body with a tubular shape, which has a longitudinal axis and is provided, on the inside, with a feeding channel ending in the injection nozzle;
- an injection valve, which is configured to adjust the gaseous fuel flow through the injection nozzle and is provided with a movable shutter arranged on the outside of the support body and with a valve seat;
- a non-metal material gasket, which is arranged in the area of the injection valve to obtain the valve seat;
- a plunger, which supports the shutter;
- and,
- an actuator, which is configured to move the shutter between a stable completely closed position of the injection valve, in which the shutter is still and stationary and is pressed against the valve seat, and an open position of the injection valve, in which the shutter is separate from the valve seat so as to create a passage opening, through which the gaseous fuel flows;
- wherein the shutter and the valve seat created by the non-metal material gasket are shaped so as to have a main contact area of the non-metal material gasket, in which the shutter is always in contact with the valve seat created by the non-metal material gasket, when it is in the stable completely closed position;
- the fuel injector is operatively arranged such that the shutter and the valve seat created by the non-metal material gasket are shaped so as to have a secondary contact area of the non-metal material gasket, which is separate and spaced apart from the main contact area of the non-metal material gasket and in which the shutter is always, or only in case of wear of the main contact area, in contact with the valve seat created by the non-metal material gasket, when it is in the stable completely closed position.
