Abstract
This disclosure provides methods and compositions for identifying Brassica plants that have a native deletion of the INDEHISCENT gene (BnIND-A) located on chromosome A of B. napus. Also provided are methods of improving one or more agronomic characteristics such as pod shatter and breeding methods for introducing a pod shatter tolerant phenotype in Brassica plants and/or their progeny.
Claims15
A Brassica plant, cell, or germplasm thereof comprising a BnIND-A genomic deletion on chromosome N03 and a BnIND-C genomic deletion, wherein the BnIND-A gene deleted segment results in a breakpoint locus corresponding to positions 10,002-10,003 of SEQ ID NO:2.
A method of generating Brassica napus plants comprising a BnIND-A genomic deletion and a BnIND-C genomic deletion, the method comprising
- a. selecting a first parent Brassica plant comprising a BnIND-A genomic deletion on chromosome N03, wherein the BnIND-A gene deleted segment results in a breakpoint locus corresponding to positions 10,002-10,003 of SEQ ID NO:2;
- and
- b. crossing the first parent Brassica plant with a second parent Brassica plant comprising a BnIND-C genomic deletion;
- thereby generating one or more progeny plants comprising the BnIND-A genomic deletion and the BnIND-C genomic deletion.
