Network aware optimal route selection for autonomous applications

A method performed by an autonomous user equipment (UE), comprising:

• transmitting, to a route selection engine in a network, an initial route generated by a mapping mechanism of the UE;
• receiving, from the route selection engine in a network, a revised network optimal route that excludes one or more geospatial hex bins identified as exclusion zones based on one or more operator defined key performance indicators;
• monitoring, during traversal of the revised network optimal route, one or more network performance parameters;
• and;
• transmitting a request for a further revised route in response to determining that the monitored parameters exceed the operator defined key performance indicators.

A system for updating route selection of an autonomous vehicle in a network, comprising:

• a route selection engine including one or more processors and memory storing instructions that, when executed, cause the system to:
• receive, from the autonomous vehicle, an initial route generated by a mapping mechanism of the vehicle;
• evaluate the initial route against operator defined key performance indicators;
• determine that at least one portion of the initial route exceeds a threshold associated with a performance parameter;
• generate a revised network optimal route that avoids the portion;
• and
• transmit the revised network optimal route to the autonomous vehicle for execution.
